Underground Maps Unravelled

Maxwell Robert became a lecturer in psychology at the University of Essex in 1993. His research interests include reasoning and intelligence, and which more recently has focused on information design; in particular, schematic maps. For this exhibition at the Minories he created challenging alternative designs for Harry Beck’s famous 1933 London Underground map and tests their usability and aesthetics.
