In Darkest England compromises of twenty-three sheets in a clamshell box. Part one is an interview with Humphrey Spender about his role as photographer working for Mass Observation during 1937

Part two is made up of typographic interpretations by different typographers of observer’s notes. These sheets were designed and printed by Phil Baines, Darren Clarke, Barry Hurd, David Jury, Alan Kitching, Robert Park-Barnard, and Jeremy Tankard.
